The Society has always maintained an open membership policy as a community choir and currently has around 100 members covering a wide spectrum of varied musical experience and of all ages, coming from the Buckingham and surrounding area. Although there are no auditions, the Society has built a strong reputation for high quality performances of a diverse range of music over the years.
The choir’s standards continue to rise under the inspirational musical leadership of its Musical Director, Julian Mann, with Craig Greene as repetiteur / Concert accompanist.
In 2009 the Society celebrated its 150th anniversary, the highlight of which was a charity lunchtime concert on Sunday 20th December 2009 in the Old Town Hall, Buckingham, attended by local dignitaries and the proceeds donated to two local charities, the BACAB and the League of Friends of Buckingham Hospital. Despite the freezing and very icy weather conditions, the Society was delighted to raise £500 to be shared between these two very worthy local charities.
Buckingham Choral Society is a registered charity, it is affiliated to Making Music and gratefully acknowledges the support it receives from Aylesbury Vale Arts Council. |
